Think happy. Be happy.
Remember earlier this year I wrote about Brown Hill Farms and the tulip fields? (If you haven’t already, go check out my Tulip Field post.) Well, they also do sunflower fields. This is my favorite thing to do this time of year. Sunflowers are my favorite flower. To me, sunflowers are happy and bright and beautiful. How can you not be in awe when you’re standing in front of a sea of tall, bright yellow flowers.
Fun fact: Did you know sunflowers turn to each other and share their energy when there isn’t enough sunlight? How amazing is that? Maybe humans can learn something from sunflowers.
Just like during tulip season, there are different fields of sunflowers to walk through and different props around each to take some cool photos. Some of the sunflowers are short and some are tall. There are trails going through the fields so you can be up close and personal with the flowers. I love walking through the tall sunflower field and having the flowers tower over me. It’s like being in a jungle.
There were bees buzzing around everywhere. They loved the sunflowers. You are allowed to cut sunflowers to take home with you and the one that I cut, the bees loved. I think I always had 2 bees just hanging out on my flower. As long as you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you.
A new prop in the field this year was a piano. There were a few people who played beautifully and it was nice to sit and listen to them play. I even gave my best shot at playing a few notes. It’s been years since I’ve played any instrument. When I was a kid we use to have a piano in the front room of our house. Years later, around middle school age, I learned how to play guitar and clarinet.
Fun fact about me: When I was a freshman in high school I was part of the marching band and our field show was actually My Chemical Romance, it was the best thing ever. I was one of those punk / scene kids, so I was in my glory haha. Still my favorite type of music though, but I do listen to a mix of everything. Music is my language.
Let me know if you recognize the song in the video!
Aside from the sunflower fields, there is also a barn where you can shop and buy things like flowers, sauces, soaps, fudge, candles, lotions, and all kinds of things. I bought a cute sunflower kitchen towel, some secret sauce, and lemongrass bug repellant lotion. There are also some slides and swings for the kids and even animals you can feed.
Keep an eye out for the other events and seasonal outings Brown Hill Farm has to offer. I am looking forward to going back for pumpkins. Fall is my favorite season and I can’t wait to see all the fall colors and the pumpkins!!

Ever since I returned home from this trip to the sunflower fields I have had the flowers I picked in a vase right next to my computer to remind myself of this amazing time outside with my family and to remind myself to smile throughout the day (because lets be honest, sometimes it’s hard). I love looking up and seeing the big flower beaming at me. It’s like my own personal sun the past few rainy days. (You can see the plaid towel hanging on my stove, that is the kitchen towel I bought).
